Is there any law stating that we have to have a funeral when we die?

  • I know it is a bit morbid but do we actually have to have a funeral or can we just go straight to the crematoria? I am not religious nor do I have any family so I don't see the point in having a funeral to be honest unless you have to have one.

  • No. A funeral or memorial service is for the benefit of the living survivors. Both my deceased father and my husband, however, were taken to a funeral home to be prepared for the crematorium, then shipped to the crematorium from there. (I think the body goes to the funeral home first in order to ensure that disease is not present or spread). Call a local crematorium ... I'm sure they will be able to tell you what is necessary under law in your jurisdiction.

My mother just made arrangements for the disposition of her own remains with a funeral company. The whole process (taken from home or hospital to the funeral home, preparation at the funeral home, carton provided for the body, then taken to the crematorium and reduced to ashes, urn turned over to family) cost just over $1,300.

  • You can go straight to the crematoria for the final burn up. A mate of mine died aged 86 a few years back and he did exactly that. He was a lifelong Socialist and believe that when you died that was the end of that.

His own words were, "either chuck me on the compost heap or on the bonfire."

I bet he's up there laughing right now, the prat!

  • No funeral needed. You don't even have to be cremated. You can have a direct burial with no services.

  • You can go straight into the creamatorium.

  • A funeral is not required.

All that is required is that the body is disposed of in a safe way.

Personally, I want every usable piece of me to be donated to someone who can use it. And then I'd like a big party. Consider donating your organs before cremation!

  • No there is no law saying that you have to have a funeral. There are many people who don't and you don't have to have any religious service at the crematorium.

  • Not at all. It seems that a funeral is more about the people still left than the person who actually died. It is a service so people can come and pay their respects. It is not required.

  • No formal funeral needed you can even take the body in a home made cardboard coffin

  • When my mother died she had few friends and all relatives are back east.
I just went straight to cremation. I did tell all where here crypt was located. (no one to this time has visited)
I also told my son to just have me cremated and take my ashes up to the red woods and accidentally drop them! (that part is not legal)

    good luck
