Are domain names i own legally mine?

If i make a domain name no matter what the name is, close to another company for example or an extension of another company name, is it mine to do as i please i have total rights over it?

If the domain name is not taken already then yes you can do what you please with it. Remember to renew the domain name each year before it goes back on the market.There are a lot of people that just buy domain names hoping that someone else will want it to make a profit.

It is yours for as long as you want to pay for it, but if u have no or anything, anyone can buy or use it maybe even steal it..

All up to the person you register it with, and the host you use to host the files for the website. Check their ToS.

Hi, I don't think this is totally clear at the momement - I think it depends upon how close to another company name your domain is, and how you are using it. To be sure you will need to consult a lawyer with specific experience in the field.

As an example, If I were to try to set up a website booots.com, and was to try selling cosmetics from it, I imagine I would have a difficult time from the guys at boots.com, as I was clearly trying to get rather close to registered trademarks to get business that should really be theirs.

If you are lucky, they may just make an offer for the domain as it would be cheaper than the fight. That may depend on how far you are taking the mickey, and what mood the lawyers are in when they spot you!
